LACROIX - PARIS - A truly gorgeous hand rolled silk twill scarf in stunning
colours, very dramatic, other fab scarves from Lacroix include the Spanish
Matador and World Travel designs - I love his scarves and only wish
that I had more! Born in Arles in 1951, worked for both Hermes and Patou
before launching his own couture and ready to wear collections in 1988,
famous for his fantastic use of colour.
JACQUES

c1960s - during his time Heim was an important designer , his chain of
boutiques operated from 1946 until the mid 1960s - he also created major
perfumes such as J'Aime in 1950 followed by Shanandoah in 1966.
BECKFORD
SILK - ENGLAND - PATRICK HERON - Highly collectable silk hand rolled scarf
entitled GOURMET - a brilliant piece of artwork re-produced on silk - original artwork by Patrick Heron ('47) the renowned
British artist who sadly passed away in 1999. The scarf is top quality as
is always the case from Beckford Silk - the colours used on the
scarf are different to the original artwork.
VERA
- U.S.A. - A Vera Neumann scarf dating from the 1960s, gorgeous floral graphics,
hand rolled silk twill, look for her LADYBUG trademark, A truly
brilliant designer. Started production in 1945, it is worth noting
that the earlier designs had a smaller signature than those of late.
TIE
RACK - This is a fine example of some of the earlier TR scarves, the
graphics are stunning, designed by Tamala Salman the Baghdad born artist who
after working in textile design is now Design Director for Liberty of London.
This scarf was produced with the Young British Designers at Tie Rack label, other brilliant designs worth collecting were also produced which
have KIKAMI on the label. Most were made in Japan.

NEXT
- Pure silk - Some interesting silk scarves have been produced over a period of
time by this famous U.K. high street store. Most of the Next scarves which I have in my own collection are not signed on
the scarf itself, the name appears only on the tag thus making them difficult to
identify. Unfortunately this could result over a period of time in many
having being discarded due to lack of identity which in turn means they
become more difficult to find. The graphics on the black scarf are brilliant -
the words 'up above the marbled steps in the
perfumed chamber' - 'The scent of trampled roses' references are also made
to - umbrella, teapot, chair, vanity case and powder jars. All
in all a very unusual scarf which has a Next tag. The other silk twill hand
rolled scarf features a very colourful design of mugs/cups.
KREIER

1964. YSL scarves are highly collectable.

NINA

as a child. she opened her very famous fashion house in the early 1930s,
noted for her elegant and very chic clothes and also her gorgeous perfume L'Air
du Temps which was launched in 1948 and is still a best seller to this
very day. This stunning and dramatic silk rolled edge scarf is signed Nina
Ricci and
bears all the hallmarks of quality.

unusual scarves depicting all sorts of different subjects many of which
have a very definite American theme - this particular scarf features
Giorgio -Beverley Hills -
Wings perfume bottles, plus hand
bags, shoes, hats and gloves complete the design, a very girlie scarf, these are
extremely popular as are the other 'girlie' themed scarves which feature handbags,
cosmetics, shoes and Barbie to name but a
few. It is worth noting that many of
the scarves are dated on the tag which limits the amount released, which
in turn makes them scarcer as time goes by, don't miss out if you see one.
MONDI
- Super high class fashion name established in Germany 1967 but changed
hands in 2005. Now part of the Gilmar (Italy) group who also own ICEBERG
makers of fantastic designer label Jeans, look out fortheir super
Iceberg scarves some of which have very unusual graphics. MONDI vintage scarves are a
especially delightful and
now very difficult to find, snap them up if you see any! The
modernist silk art scarf featured is so colourful and extrovert and
would have teamed up perfectly with a Mondi sweater or superbly tailored
outfit which always guaranteed that the wearer would stand out in a
crowd.

Grecian style draping and also pleating which never date and are the

very Gres.

scarves fall into this price bracket and even higher in some cases.

 HERMES
- PARIS needs no introduction, the creme de la creme, highly sought after by all scarf collectors -
extremely high quality, this lovely silk twill plump hand rolled edge design
entitled La Poste never dates and is always a firm favourite with collectors. There are many Hermes fakes about theses days, some of them are very convincing
and even come with an Orange box! If you intend buying the scarf as an
investment take care when buying especially if you are
paying a high price. Check out the edge of the
scarf which should have a plump 'hand' rolled edge, if the edge is machine
'rolled' or over-locked the scarf scarf is not genuine. Look out for
established sellers who are very knowledgeable about Hermes scarves and from
whom you are sure of getting the 'real thing'. The other pretty
red bordered scarf is entitled Joies d' Hiver, made from a Jacqurd weave, silk
twill. The subject of Hermes scarves is so in-depth as so many designs
have been produced over the years, there are excellent websites out there who
specialize in Hermes scarves only.
GUCCI

breweries and developers.
LIBERTY
OF LONDON - No collection is complete without a Liberty scarf, this example is
silk twill and dates from 1938, the scarf itself was block printed at
Merton Abbey, the clients name was then added later at the Liberty store at the
time of purchase.
BALENCIAGA
-very difficult to find
these days. Dramatic graphics in two colours, very Balenciaga. Balenciaga
